Ronald McDonald House

Built on Stanford University land, the building program called for twenty-six residences for families whose children were being treated for cancer at Stanford University Medical Center.

Meant to function both physically and emotionally, arriving families can look through three ever larger pavilions and courtyards to the open sky. A motif of birds throughout represents a “flight out of illness.” Images of boys and girls holding up the building’s pavilions speak to the strength of children.
